Episcopal Young Churchmen - EYC
The EYC is St. Thomas' youth group for middle- and high-schoolers. We meet one or two times a month for food, fun, and service. Past activities include bowling, movie night, and a visit to Greenville's Haunted House. EYC also strives to better the community; in December we made Christmas angels for the local nursing home residents and rang bells to Christmas Carols with residents with the help of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW).
Look for announcements for EYC events on the website or in the church bulletin. If you would like to become involved with EYC, please contact Laura Sadowski at laura@saintthomasgreenville.org.
Episcopal Church Women - ECW
All women members of St. Thomas are included in the ECW. Recognizing that we are, indeed, "blessed to be a blessing", our women are actively involved in a variety of outreach ministries.
Proceeds from various fund raising projects provide needed donations to the following organizations: Wilmer Hall Children's Home; Safe Harbor of Greenville; St. Thomas Food Basket/Soup Pantry in cooperation with Butler Co. DHR and the Butler Co. Health Dept.; a small college scholarship fund; local nursing homes; our Rector's discretionary Fund; Greenville PD transients fund; and Food for the Poor, International.
Men's Breakfast
Every Thursday morning at seven o'clock, except in the Summer, we meet in the Parish Hall kitchen and
enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by our "chefs" Jim and Mints McGowin and share the latest
sports, politics, etc.
After breakfast a variety of programs are enjoyed. Some of the programs included Bishop N. T. Wright's video series "Simple Christianity" and his series on the life of Jesus, contemporary issues using the Christian Science Monitor as a resource, study of the Bible and other books are some examples. The Men's Breakfast group cooks and serves the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and organizes great cookouts. Just ask former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey who was our special guest during our Sesquicentennial!
First Sunday Luncheon
On the first Sunday of each month, during the “school year” and immediately following the 10:30 Holy Eucharist Service, the members and visitors to St. Thomas enjoy a fabulous “pot luck” luncheon. The church provides the meat and drinks and attendees bring the rest. Guess what? - it always works out perfectly! This is a wonderful time of fellowship and a regular event that no one wants to miss.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The St. Thomas Prayer Shawl Ministry was organized in November of 2006. It was created for those who knit to combine the love of knitting and caring for others into a prayerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of LOVE COMFORT, HOPE, JOY, and PEACE. We knit on our own and gather once a month for fellowship. Our gatherings are a time to pray together and share-share our shawls in progress-share our stories of God's blessings received by the knitters and recipients through the shawls. Each shawl will be blessed by the knitters loving care and each shawl will carry God's blessings and many prayers with it.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is an opportunity to make new friends and renew old acquaintances as we share something we love to do at our gatherings. As we knit and pray together, or alone, we will experience a closer relationship with the Lord and feel blessed knowing the shawls will bring COMFORT, LOVE, HOPE, JOY, and PEACE to the recipient of a shawl.
If you are interested in joining the St. Thomas Prayer Shawl Ministry, please contact the church office for more information. The group meets on the 3rd Sunday afternoon of each month from 2:30 until 4:30. We would love to have you join us! All that are required are your knitting abilities and a prayerful spirit.
Prayer of Blessing
For a Completed Shawl
Janet Bristow
May God's grace be upon this shawl...
Warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing.
May this mantle be a safe haven...
A sacred place of security and well-being...
Sustaining and embracing in good times as well as difficult ones.
May the one who receives this shawl
Be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace,
And wrapped in love.
Blessed Be!
